Psycho-oncology

For most patients, cancer is associated with major psychological stress. In line with the mission statement of the Tumour Biology Centre, both institutions have at their disposal a central Psycho-oncological Unit which offers a wide spectrum of psychosocial and art-therapy measures to support and assist patients in coming to terms with their illness.

The primary targets of psycho-oncological care are improving the psychological state of mind and coming to terms with the disease, strengthening the individual's own resources, supporting creativity and encouraging self-help. All psychosocial members of staff are firmly integrated into the medical care team on each ward. In addition to patient care, the Tumour Biology Centre also conducts research into the areas of psycho-oncology and rehabilitation.
